Elicana Alanana Tobico
- A Professional Guide and Maasai Warrior Leader in his
Tribe.
Elicana is a
27 year old young man that has been a Maasai Warrior
since he was 16 years old. He has accomplished many
tasks in his young life. He completed his formal
secondary education training at the age of 20 in Arusha,
Tanzania. During the past 11 years Elicana has invested
his time and efforts in training all the young warriors
in his village. This would account for approximately 500
young men in total. He teaches them the culture and
trains them how to survive in the outdoors for weeks and
months at a time.
He is a
professional tracker and a guide throughout Tanzania and
Kenya. He has climbed MT. Kilimanjaro numerous times in
guiding small groups to the summit. During 2007, Elicana
took his first plane trip flying from Arusha to
Amsterdam and then on to New York City. He came to the
United States in February and was in the country for one
month, learning the culture through visiting the NYC
Museum of Natural History and traveling to other cities,
such as Philadelphia, where he visited the King Tut
exhibition. One of the highlights of the trip was a
visit to the Broadway Theater to see the famous Lion
King Musical.
While visiting
the United States Elicana was a guest speaker at 4
schools where he spoke about his culture and explained
to the students the different stages of life as a Maasai
Warrior. He spoke in front of groups of 24 - 800 and was
able to reach a total of about 5,000 young men and women
to share his lifelong experiences during his speaking
tour.
Elicana is a very personable
young man with experiences that will fill hours of
conversation around a campfire after a long days journey
of site seeing.
